The biggest skimboarding competition on the planet happens right here in Dewey Beach. The ZAP Pro/Am World Championships bring elite riders from around the globe to our shores every August, and it is an absolute spectacle whether you skim or just watch.
Three days of nonstop action. Friday kicks off with check-in and amateur heats. Saturday and Sunday are when the pros throw down, with heats scheduled around the best wave windows. The energy on the beach is electric, with riders launching off the wash and pulling tricks that seem to defy physics.
Free for spectators. Just show up, plant your chair on the sand, and watch world-class athletes compete for a $10,000+ prize purse. The vibe is pure Dewey: barefoot, sun-soaked, and totally casual. You will see Alley Oop Skim crew everywhere, local groms mixing it up with international talent, and the whole skim community coming together.
Insider Tip: Dewey Beach is the skimboarding capital of the East Coast for a reason. If watching the pros inspires you, Alley Oop Skim runs camps all summer for beginners through advanced riders. This event is the crown jewel of their season.
