Love Seed Mama Jump Turns 35 at the Rusty Rudder
Thirty-five years is a long time for a band to stay together anywhere. In a beach town, where businesses turn over and buildings come down, it is close to unheard of. On Saturday, July 25, Love Seed Mama Jump plays their 35th anniversary show at the Rusty Rudder, and if you have spent any real time in Dewey, you already know why that matters.

Why 35 Years Is a Big Deal
Love Seed Mama Jump is a six-piece rock band out of Dewey Beach playing guitar-driven pop rock, heavy on hooks. They marked their 25th anniversary at the Rudder back in 2016, which puts the band’s start in 1991 and makes this year number 35.
By their own count they have played thousands of nightclub shows, plus more than 500 weddings, corporate events and fundraisers. They have shared stages with Dave Matthews, The Beach Boys, Beck, Matchbox-20, Fuel and the B-52’s. Five records, more than 100,000 copies sold independently, which is a number most bands with a label behind them never touch. Their first was a 1994 live album recorded at the Stone Balloon, the Newark college bar that is not there anymore.
But the reason people around here care has less to do with the résumé. If you came to Dewey in the nineties, you saw them. If you brought your college roommates down in 2005, you saw them. If you came back last summer with kids old enough to stay at the house on their own, they were still up there. Bars change hands, menus turn over, buildings come down. This band kept showing up.
The Rudder Connection
The Rusty Rudder is bayside, which means the sunset is part of the show whether the band planned it that way or not. It is a large deck built for exactly this, and it has been part of the Dewey live music scene for decades.
Their sound is built for a crowd that wants to sing along to something they already know. That is what a Dewey Saturday calls for.
Insider Tip: Come for one of the afternoon sets and stay. Turning up at 8:45 for a 9PM anniversary show on a July Saturday is optimistic.
