Golden Jubilee: Hundreds of Golden Retrievers Take Over Dewey Beach

September 5, 2026

There are beach weekends, and then there are beach weekends with hundreds of golden retrievers. Golden Jubilee is the kind of Dewey event you can somehow miss for years, then immediately wonder why nobody told you.

The fall gathering returns September 25 and 26, 2026, centered on the Van Dyke Street beach in Dewey Beach. Expect beach romps, enthusiastic greetings, and enough golden fur to fill your entire camera roll.

The weekend also includes a Friday evening walk in Rehoboth and a Saturday bonfire. Friday is for exploring, Saturday is beach time, and the bonfire gives you a reason to stick around into the evening.

What makes this one special is how far it flies under the radar outside dog circles. People who plan their entire fall around restaurant reservations might have no idea that a small golden retriever universe is assembling a few streets away.

You do not have to be a golden retriever obsessive to appreciate the spectacle. Watching hundreds of dogs collectively decide that the beach is the greatest place on Earth is a pretty convincing argument for putting your phone away, at least briefly.

Insider Tip: Get your photos, then slow down. The best moments are the smaller ones: a sandy nose, a very serious stick negotiation, a dog who has absolutely no intention of leaving the water.

For photographers, this is a gift. Shoot from the edge of the activity, give dogs and handlers space, and ask before making somebody’s pet the star of your close-up.

There is a meaningful purpose behind all that joy, too. Golden Jubilee benefits canine health research.

Don’t Miss: The Saturday bonfire belongs on your weekend plan. Check the organizer’s schedule for timing and participation details before building your evening around it.

Go for the goldens. Stay because leaving will feel unreasonable.

Dates and details can change. Confirm with the organizer before heading out.
