The Running of the Bull is one the wildest, funniest traditions in Dewey Beach. Hosted by The Starboard and its legendary owner Monty, this event is a hilarious spoof of the Pamplona classic. The big difference? Instead of risking your life against 2,000-pound livestock, you're running down the beach away from two guys in a pantomime bull costume.
The Schedule: While the "run" itself happens on the beach at 2 PM, the real event is the pre-party. Things typically kick off at The Starboard on Highway One at 11 AM - but check with them for exact timing. Expect a massive crowd, loud music, and an electric atmosphere before the herd migrates to the sand.
A Good Cause: It's not just about acting ridiculous. The event raises serious money for local heroes. Held annually in late June, the event raises serious money for local causes like the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
If you're in town that weekend, this is non-negotiable. Whether you're actually running from the "beast" or just cheering with a drink in hand, it's a total blast that captures the fun-loving spirit of Dewey perfectly. Just make sure you get there early - it gets packed fast.
